Fochtmans honor son with Be a Hero Day
February 10, 2017
Last year, teachers Beth and Rich Fochtman found a way to turn great personal sorrow into a project that spread positivity throughout the Baldwin-Whitehall community.
In February 2012, the Fochtmans experienced the loss of their son, Logan, from complications in Mrs. Fochtman’s pregnancy.
She had a previously unknown tumor that ruptured, and Logan died as a result. In essence, Mrs. Fochtman said, she only lived because of Logan’s death.
So last year, the Fochtmans decided to create a project to honor their son, called Be a Hero Day. After the success of that event, the Fochtmans have decided to promote Be a Hero Day again this year.
The date for the event once again is Logan’s Feb. 12 birthday, which this year falls on Sunday.
The Fochtmans are asking students and teachers to do a kind thing for another person in honor of Logan on Sunday, and then to share it on social media with the hashtag #BeAHero212.
“We are thankful for everything the community did last year, from reading to their younger sibling, to buying another person’s Starbucks,” Rich Fochtman said.
