A dog’s purpose questions purpose

The film A Dog’s Purpose gives audiences what they expect and what they do not. The main character is a dog that goes through reincarnation after every death. The dog, whose thoughts the audience can hear, tries to find the meaning of life.

This of course leads scenes to be quite emotional, but they are genuine and not overdone. What audiences might not expect in this film is the amount of comedy spread throughout due to the narration and thoughts from the dog.

The actors also contribute to the film by giving great performances that get viewers invested in their stories, but John Ortiz as Carlos and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Maya have less time to connect than various actors that play the main human, Ethan, as he ages. The only problem would the controversy over a video that surfaced involving what appeared to be a German shepherd not wanting to go in water.

Overall, it is a sweet film that tries to answer the unanswerable.
