Sing is a movie for all

Sing is a movie for all

Arlen Hooks, Staff Writer

Even though the previews from the movie Sing seem filled with grade-school level content, it is truly a film for all ages. With human life ostracized, animals audition to participate in a singing competition for a $100,000 prize. Little does the town know that the prize is really $1,000, funded by a financially struggling koala (Matthew McConaughey) trying to keep his theater from being shut down. The thousands of animals are narrowed down to five as female icons Scarlett Johansson, Tori Kelly, and Reese Witherspoon play the roles of a rock star porcupine, a shy elephant with an angelic voice, and a motherly pig reaching for a fading dream. The male singing cast is led by Seth MacFarlane, a condescending mouse with a New York state of mind, and Taylor Egerton, a gangster gorilla looking for a way out. With song selections from old-time favorites like Frank Sinatra and Dolly Parton to current icons Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj, the film soundtrack allows recognition from teenagers to people over 50. It really does want to make viewers leave the theater, get in the car, roll down the windows and SING.
