Little Simz brings freshness in sophomore album

CJ Norwood, Staff Writer

British artist Little Simz dropped her sophomore album, called Stillness in Wonderland in mid-December. The album is the trip through her wonderland or her psyche. She mentions everything from her trust issues to how she’s grown into person that she is today. With clean hooks and great transitions, the record is nothing short of her first album, A Curious Tales of Trails + Persons. The album is made up of rap songs over layered experimental beats containing bass and jazzy melodies with R&B hooks and transitions. The chemistry between Simz and Syd in the song Shotgun is obvious, Simz and her quick rhyme scheme and Syd with the soulful vocals for the hook over the constantly changing beat makes this one of the best tracks on the record. The album has wonderfully placed interludes that contain a break from the sound of the album and give listeners a glimpse into the softer side of Simz. In the song Her (Interlude), Simz slows the pace of the album and speaks about herself and the troubles that she has had. Overall the production of the album is great and the flow of the transitions really make the project flow from start to finish.
