Mariah Carey’s Christmas album prevails as a classic

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the best Christmas albums is Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas album. Some may argue that the album is lacking innovation since it is 12 years old; however, the songs sound better than some of the versions being made now. The way her voice sounds enables her to make these Christmas classics her own. However, she does not change them enough to turn them into something they are not. “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night” have little to no imperfections and have amazing harmony, as do so many songs on the rest of the album. Every song incorporates some sort of other background aspect that allows for the album to stand out among the hundreds of other Christmas albums. The most-known song of the album, “All I Want for Christmas,” is easily the best written on the album. There is nothing better than sitting by the Christmas lights by the fire, drinking hot chocolate and listening to the angelic voice of Mariah Carey.
