Girls basketball wins close game against Gateway

After a close win over Gateway Monday night, the girls basketball team is feeling confident going into a game against Seton La Salle on Friday.

The Gateway game was close throughout, freshman Jenna Lutz said, with a final score of 50-49.

“(Sophomore) Jess Remlinger scored the game-winning free throw,” Lutz said. Along with scoring the final free throw, Remlinger has been a key aspect of the defense, Lutz said.

“(Senior) Lauren Gilbert had a very good game. She was hitting key shots and playing good defense,” Lutz said.

Gilbert has been one of the team’s standout players throughout her career, as she is closing in on 1,000 total points.

Despite the team’s confidence this season, there are still areas that can be improved, according to Lutz.

“We still need to work on rebounding and transition defense, but we are feeling confident going against Seton,” Lutz said.

The girls play at 6 p.m. Friday. The boys varsity team plays Seton at 7:30 p.m..
