It’s a wonderful time to hate on Bieber
December 20, 2016
Perhaps the only acceptable time to dislike Christmas music is when listening to Under the Mistletoe, Justin Bieber’s Christmas album, released in 2011. Bieber is a fairly talented artist when it comes to songwriting and making music, but what went wrong when he made his Christmas album? Maybe the competition from other well-known Christmas albums, such as Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas, or Michael Bublé’s Christmas takes away from Bieber’s holiday record. Granted, not all songs on Under the Mistletoe are terrible, and neither are the vocals. This is shown in “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On and Open Fire).” With Usher’s accompanying vocals and the generic yet likeable lyrics, this song brings some relief from the other unenjoyable songs. On the other hand, “Drummer Boy,” featuring Busta Rhymes, is an insult to holiday music, failing to impress with a hip-hop twist to a traditional holiday tune. Overall, Bieber should stick to his pop radio hits, and leave the holiday music to Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé.
