The cheerleaders’ mat and game-day teams both took first place Sunday at the South Hills Showdown hosted by Bethel Park.

Freshman Olivia Lucas attributed the team’s success to previous training.

“We prepared a lot for it,” she said.

The combined score from both victories gave the girls the grand champion title as well.

Both girls’ teams earned bids for national competition at an earlier competition in Ohio. Nationals will be held in Orlando, Fla.

Before that, the girls have another competition in December in Slippery Rock.
