The Baldwin band competed in its first competition of the season Saturday against Woodland Hills at East Allegheny and won with a score of 75.3 out of 100.

“It’s a good score for the beginning of our season and first competition,” senior Malia Mueller said.

Mueller said the band started practicing and preparing for the competition during the summer, but serious preparation occurred in August. According to Mueller, the band had three fewer weeks to prepare for this competition because it was scheduled early this year.

The win gives them a confidence boost and a good score for comparison for the rest of the season.

The band will continue to practice to improve for future competitions. The band’s next competition is on Oct. 1.
