After an almost three year wait, Bastille has finally released its anticipated sophomore album, Wild World, with a line-up of 19 songs. With pressure to make an impressive comeback after the popularity of the 2013 hit, “Pompeii,” Bastille successfully lives up to expectations. Wild World jumps from rock alternative with “Bame” to electronic with “Glory” to a more familiar intimate sound with “Two Evils.” Wild World shows more diversity in sound as well as lyrics compared to their 2013 debut, Bad Blood. Frontman Dan Smith defines his talents with these different sounds and lyrics. The lyrics seem to be inspired by pop culture as well as Smith’s internal emotions. “Warmth” refers to the title, calling out a cold, wild world Smith lives in. At the same time, “An Act of Kindness” focuses on Smith’s internal fears. With a more diverse soundtrack, fans of Bastille’s debut album will definitely not be disappointed, and those who are unfamiliar with the band will easily be satisfied.
