Movie Review: The Boss

MAGGIE HINES

Melissa McCarthy gives another hilarious, stellar performance in her new movie The Boss, directed by her husband, Ben Falcone. The plot follows successful businesswoman Michelle Darnell during her fall from grace and her rise back to the top. After being arrested for insider trading and spending five months in jail, Darnell moves in with her assistant Claire (Kristen Bell) and Claire’s daughter Rachel (Ella Anderson). Darnell soon becomes a kind of aunt to Rachel and a personal friend to Claire. Together, this makeshift family climbs its way to the top of a cutthroat business, Girl Scout cookies. With guest appearances by Peter Dinklage, Timothy Simmons, Cecily Strong, and Kathy Bates, the film offers comedy in all forms, from physical to situational, as well as the heartwarming story of a lonely little orphan girl who dons a sparkly turtleneck and reaches the stars through hard work and the support of the only family she has ever known.
