After the release of his debut album Cozz & Effect in late 2014, LA rapper Cozz has been known for his hungry back-and-forth type of rap flow. While this remains the same in his mixtape Nothing Personal, as an artist he sounds surer of himself than ever. With the entire mix being produced by his regular producer Meez, the beat content sounds similar to his previous project, but with a fresher, more upbeat feel. Cozz, continuing with his confident persona, speaks out against police brutality and black on black crime, but focuses on the fact that he would like to be recognized as one of the best. Also talking about his “blow up,” he would like to reassure fans that he is still the same but better than ever before. On songs like “Grey Goose,” Cozz is experimenting with auto tune, and singing on the intro and hook of the song. The mixtape as a whole is good, but in comparison to Cozz & Effect it lacks structure.
