DeLuca’s Diner, in the Strip District on Penn Avenue, can often be outshined by Pamela’s diner. But DeLuca’s offers something special that Pamela’s lacks: it gives a home-style feeling with a mix of hustle and bustle. For customers who like an old-fashioned, home-cooked breakfast, DeLuca’s is a great choice. They function as a cash-only diner. Despite the long line outside, it’s all worth it in the end when greeted by the warmth and scents. The atmosphere is very busy and colorful with the classic diner feel. The staff comes off as warm and welcoming except for the occasional grumpy servers. They offer all the classics from omelets to pancakes and French toast. A lunch menu is also offered for those who aren’t necessarily breakfast people. The proportions are huge and often hard to finish, especially the Belgium Waffle Sundae. The most popular choice on the menu is the Funky Monkey and it does not disappoint. The only downside to DeLuca’s would be the huge menu, which can come off as overwhelming. It’s a Pittsburgh staple and a diners can’t go wrong with anything off the menu.
