Chris Evans makes his directorial debut with the Manhattan romance Before We Go. The film stars Evans and Alice Eve, and is basically an extended conversation between their characters. It begins with Brooke (Eve) stuck in Grand Central Station and needing to get back home to Boston. Nick (Evans) sees Brooke and he offers to help her out. They begin discussing their life stories. Both of them have unresolved issues with people who have hurt them. Neither of their problems are interesting. The two also do not show any romantic interest in each other, which leaves the audience unattached. Further, the two characters are dull. It is disappointing because the stars individually are credible actors, but together they do not deliver. Because his first shot at directing was disappointing, maybe next time Evans should stay in front of the camera.
