Unfriended follows the story of Blaire Lily (Shelley Hennig) and her friends, who are participating in an online group chat when they are suddenly joined by a mysterious user. Blaire believes the culprit is Laura Burns, a student who killed herself exactly one year prior. In an attempt to reveal the startling truth, Blaire is forced to confront her darkest secrets and lies. In terms of being a horror film that stands out from the rest, Unfriended falls short. It follows the typical storyline of a bunch of teenagers who refuse to believe that their dead classmate has come back to life, with the addition of the one friend who keeps insisting that she hash. Overall, Unfriended is not worth the trip to the theater, and should be saved for its eventual online and DVD release.
