This week marks the beginning of Autism Awareness month, and the Special Olympics club plans to spread awareness throughout the school.
Similar to the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign, students will fill in, color, and decorate puzzle pieces — the national autism symbol — to display the student body’s support for individuals with autism.
“We are continuing to develop an accepting student body,” physical education teacher Tim Laughlin said.
In addition to rallying the students, the club is reaching out to teachers and staff to get involved. The club provided an “I Light it up Blue” sign to be displayed in teacher’s rooms.
“I encourage everyone to get involved by helping the effort or even by retweeting our tweets to spread awareness. There’s always something you can do,” Laughlin said.
