The Baldwin football team lost 56-8 to Upper St. Clair on Friday to wrap up their season.
“The Panthers found our weaknesses in our zone, and they ran the ball really well,” senior Noah Saccani said.
Senior Jack Steverson agreed, saying Baldwin struggled against the run and left people open in the end zone.
For positive moments for the Highlanders, sophomore Dylan Kluzckowski said Baldwin threw the ball with confidence, and they were better at stopping the run than they had been.
“Our linebackers stepped up to make some plays, and they were consistent throughout the game,” Kluzckowski said.
Junior Joe Coates and sophomore Max Galentine both had a big impact on defense, Saccani said.
“Joe Coates really helped us on defense by stepping up and making some big plays,” Saccani said. “Max Galentine had two sacks that really helped us on defense.”
Even though it was a tough year for the 0-10 Highlanders, there were positives, players said.
“I’m really happy with how the season went, and I think I improved a whole lot,” Kluzckowski said.
Saccani said he was happy with this final game.
“I feel like we played more together in this last game than the whole season,” Saccani said.
Senior Jack Steverson acknowledged the difficult season but remained focused on leaving the program in a better place.
“We just have to make it better for the upcoming players,” Steverson said. “Honestly, getting to know all the freshmen and sophomores and helping to coach them up, helping them get better – it feels good to leave that mark on the future.
