On the first show of the second leg of her Short n Sweet tour, called “It’s Even Sweeter,” Sabrina Carpenter on Thursday gave an energized performance featuring songs from her newest album, Man’s Best Friend.
From the first song, “Taste,” Carpenter and her dancers were giving their all at the PPG Paints Arena show. Everything was extremely polished, yet the show still had that fun, silly element that Carpenter is known for.
The concert was split into three acts, depicting different times throughout the day, giving the feeling that the viewer was spending a whole day with Carpenter in her home. The set consisted of an almost Barbie doll dream apartment with different rooms, a fireplace, and a city skyline background.
The entire show seemed to be inspired by the cultural elements of the ’60s and ’70s, with elements like the second act introduction, Sabrina After Dark, inspired by Saturday Night Live.
Every act had a specific outfit that went with it, making the concert even more fun and surprising. It was obvious that Carpenter likes to keep her fans on their toes, with the interludes consisting of witty ads like “Manchild Spray Away” coming right before her song, “Manchild.”
Some standout songs included “Tears,” “Nobody’s Son,” and “House Tour,” all from her newest album, and getting their concert debuts in Pittsburgh. All of these songs showcased Carpenter’s work ethic, since every new song on the tour had an entire choreography routine and perfected vocals.
One of Carpenter’s openers, Olivia Dean, has also made a breakthrough lately with the hit “Man I Need.” Dean, with her jazzy sound, might eventually rise into the same pop status as the person she opened for.
Carpenter has been in the entertainment industry since she was a kid, starring in many Disney TV shows and movies. But her sudden rise into a global pop sensation began when she was opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour.
Carpenter has a history on Broadway, and her previous acting experience was clear in her performance. Her comedic timing was hilarious to watch.
Overall, this concert was exceptional, most of all because not many artists give their all in every performance. But Carpenter further stands out from the rest simply because of the amount of thought put into every detail, giving her an impressive edge.
