The Baldwin slow pitch softball team lost 8-7 over the weekend to Seneca Valley.
Junior Annie Martire said Seneca’s hitting stood out.
“Their hitting played a big role in their win over us,” Martire said.
Sophomore Layla Miller agreed.
“They had no trouble hitting the ball. They also ran the bases very well, which, combined with the hitting, helped them in the long run,” Miller said.
Despite the loss, Miller said Martire and Emma Mainarich did particularly well.
“Annie made good catches and was able to get the ball in quickly from the outfield. Emma was able to ground the ball well, which helped make plays in the infield,” Miller said.
This loss marks the end of the regular season. The team’s record was 3-11, and playoffs are set to start over the weekend.
Martire said the team can improve on their running.
“We definitely need to improve on our base running. We need to be smarter and more strategic in how we decide to round the bases,” Martire said.
Miller said their hitting can also be improved.
“We sometimes struggle with hitting, so if we can improve that then we’ll be in good shape,” Miller said.
The girls will face Mt. Lebanon away in the first round of playoffs on Saturday.
