The girls tennis team lost 5-0 to Bethel Park in the first round of WPIAL playoffs on Monday.
The Highlanders faced a tough matchup against Bethel Park, who showed their skill with strong serves, accurate placement, and sharp sliced shots.
“Their servers were really good, and they had really good placement,” said junior Bella Korey.
Baldwin struggled with serving and maintaining focus on the court, sometimes losing easy points and falling behind. Players sometimes missed opportunities to anticipate Bethel Park’s shots, Korey said.
“With the doubles, they need better reaction time, and I could see them being a little bit delayed,” she said.
A memorable part of the playoff game was when the JV team came to cheer them on from the stands. Their energy and encouragement lifted the spirits of the players, helping them stay positive and motivated even when the match was challenging, Korey said.
“All the girls came and saw the playoffs, and I thought that was a very special moment,” Korey said.
Even with the loss, the team is proud to have made the playoffs for the third straight year, showing steady growth and determination.
“Everyone needs to be and wants to be better on their serves,” Koery said.
The Highlanders hope to carry that momentum into next season with stronger serves and better focus.
