The boys soccer team lost to Shaler 4-2 on Saturday.
Junior Eli Schuchert credited Shaler’s offense.
“Shaler was able to get separation on our defense and it gave them many opportunities to score,” Schuchert said.
Sophomore Gavin Gusten agreed.
“Shaler had nice offensive attacks.”
Baldwin should look to improve on moving the ball better, especially on the offensive side, Gusten said.
On the defensive side, Baldwin could work on communicating marks.
“Baldwin could improve on man marking better in the 18 and finishing the ball on counter attacks,” Schuchert said.
But Baldwin found ways to still compete.
“We possessed the ball well and recognized Shaler’s mistakes, which gave us many opportunities to capitalize,” Schuchert said.
Senior Gavin Reis stood out for the Highlanders.
“Gavin played a good defensive game and scored one of the two goals — from a set piece from the 50 — based off a goalie’s mistake,” sophomore Gavin Gusten said.
Senior Zach Lieu stood out on the field due to his strong skills on offense. Lieu also scored for the Highlanders off a through ball, beating the defense, Gusten said.
The team’s next game is their senior night on Thursday at home.
