Baldwin’s Marvel Rivals esports team defeated DuBois Area High School on Thursday, 2-0.
Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 shooter game featuring Marvel characters, and teams face off over the course of a best-of-three competition.
Senior Zachary Czapko said the team adjusted well.
“We started out a little rough because we didn’t know our opponent too well, and we didn’t know what their play style was,” Czpako said. “But after we made some adjustments, we were able to take the fight, and we ended up just snowballing it all the way to our victory.”
Senior Laeth Salih agreed.
“We all just worked so well together that we were able to play off of what we all did,” Salih said.
In addition to their teamwork, the Highlanders communicated well with each other.
“Our biggest strength was our communication,” Czapko said. “We were able to pinpoint exactly who we needed to go after first, and after that, the rest of the enemy team just fell apart.”
There were some issues with certain characters getting banned in the second game, but Baldwin persevered, Salih said.
Despite Baldwin’s teamwork, DuBois still put up a good fight.
“This team played grouped up, and that gave us a bigger challenge,” Salih said.
Baldwin’s next match is Thursday against an opponent that is to be determined.
