The boys cross country team placed fourth and the girls team placed seventh on Tuesday at the section championship at South Fayette.
South Fayette won the section in the girls division while Mt. Lebo won for the boys.
Sophomore Cheyanne Trout was a positive for Baldwin, placing fourth in the girls division. This earned her first team all-section honors.
Senior boys Captain Alex Castaneda placed 11th, which made him second team all section. He was happy about this, but he said he needs to work on his mental game at the end of the races before WPIALs.
“I start out strong every race and find my pace, but somewhere in the middle I lose focus, causing me to fall back,” Castaneda said.
Overall, Castaneda said the Highlanders could have pushed a little harder on Tuesday.
“We need to compete more in every race and not let people pass us and get away so easily,” Castaneda said.
Sophomore Austin Barrett said for the team to do better, they need to stay in closer packs so they can score more points.
The teams will compete Saturday in the Bald Eagle Invitational at White Oak.
