The boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Foundations meet in Hershey on Saturday.
The boys team finished 29 out of 47 AAA teams. The girls 29 finished out of 37 AAA teams.
Sophomore Alana Ipolito said the course was hilly, making it hard for the runners to beat their personal records. Senior Alex Castaneda agreed.
“It’s one of the hardest courses, in my opinion, that I have raced,” Castaneda said.
It is the same course where cross country states take place, so it was good preparation for runners who might qualify.
“A lot of the team liked it because it was a state’s course and they enjoyed running that level of a course,” Castaneda said.
Sophomore Cheyanne Trout and Castaneda both stood out in their races, Ipolito said.
“Cheyanne Trout ran and placed better than expected. She got 28th with a time of 20:53,” Ipolito said.
Castaneda is a strong runner for Baldwin and placed in the top 50, she said.
“He’s one of our best runners. He went to states last year and hopes to go to states again this year,” Ipolito said.
Going forward, the team is working on getting motivated and improving on their mentality.
“Baldwin could improve on just mentally being in the race,” Ipolito said.
The team’s next race is this Saturday at the Youthtown Invitational in Clinton, Pa.
