Junior Logan Siefert competed Monday in the second round of WPIAL golf playoffs, but he will not move on to the finals.
Siefert said he felt the pressure going into the second round of golf WPIAL playoffs. Despite almost shooting a qualifying score the previous day during his practice round, he said the playoff pressure was new to him and drastically different from the first round of qualifiers.
“The pressure was different because there were more than double the amount of players, fans, and WPIAL officials,” Siefer said. “It was nerve racking for sure.”
On Sunday he was able to get onto Willow Brook for a practice round, where he put a good score together, even shooting one under par on the back nine. However on Monday, he said he did not give himself a lot of putts to make birdie, which hurt him.
He plans to use the round as a lesson and to learn from it. Handling the pressure and proper preparation will make the difference for him as he goes into his senior year.
“Knowing the pressure and expecting it next year will be helpful for sure. Also knowing what it takes to qualify and what target score I need to be aiming for,” Siefert said.
He plans to play a lot more golf leading up to next season, including getting involved in tournaments to get more comfortable in a competition setting.
“The goal for next year would be to make it through to the WPIAL finals,” Siefert said.
