Baldwin’s girls volleyball defeated Bethel Park 3-1 on Thursday night.
Junior Cameron Bowlus said the team did well overall with their defense, serve receive, and passing.
“We had very good defense and serve receive during this match,” Bowlus said. “Our passing in general behind the 10-foot line held us together.”
Junior Caitlyn Zalar agreed that the team did well defensively. The hitters also performed well, Zalar said.
The team started off low on energy, but improved as the game progressed.
“At first we did not have the energy we needed. But as the game went on, we had more energy on and off the court,” Zalar said.
Senior Abby Hirt stood out with great saves from hard serves, Bowlus said.
“She had a lot of good saves on the hard cross shots from the other team’s outside hitter that required her to dive, and she always got them up and recovered well,” Bowlus said.
Bowlus also played well, effectively placing the ball and playing smart, Zalar said.
“She had some really nice swings and was very smart with where she placed the ball,” Zalar said.
Bethel Park also played an intelligent game.
“They had a lot of smart plays when they were hitting and tipping,” Zalar said.
Baldwin will work on staying more consistent with their hitting at the net. The Highlanders hit a few too many balls into the net that could have saved them a set, Bowlus said.
The team has had a successful season so far with more wins than they had by this point last year. Their overall record is 5-2, with the section being 2-2.
The team’s next match is against Peters Township, at home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
