Conan Gray’s Wishbone tour show offered a phenomenal and engaging performance Tuesday at the Peterson Events Center.
The show opened with a song off of Gray’s latest album, Wishbone, titled “My World.” As soon as the music began, fans were immediately captivated by his energy, voice, and set design.
At one point, Gray selected someone from the crowd to choose one of two songs for him to sing. Gray and the audience member — a fan’s grandma – broke apart a wishbone, and whoever broke off the bigger half got to choose the song. The fan got to decide, choosing “Alley Rose,” a song off of Gray’s third album, Found Heaven.
Gray is one of the few artists that somehow sounds better live. His vocal performance was breathtaking; his voice remained powerful in every style of song. His discography consists of songs ranging from slower melodies, like “Heather,” to more energetic songs, like “Maniac.”
“Heather,” from his first album, Kid Krow, was the song that truly kick-started Gray’s rise to fame. It is based on a girl he went to high school with, and it talks about Gray’s jealousy of her. A fan favorite, this song was a highlight of the show.
One of the recently released songs that stood out were “Connell,” which is one of the slower, sadder songs on his latest album, and is less popular than many others. However, Gray’s performance of it was absolutely captivating. His incredible voice, paired with the angrier twist he put on the song, made the performance stunningly beautiful.
Every song that Gray sang from his latest album was extraordinary. Another that left a mark was “Vodka Cranberry,” which is one of his more popular songs. Not only was his voice incredible, but the stage design for the song was gorgeous.
Another standout was “Memories,” which Gray sang as an encore. The song itself is perfection, but when sung live, it somehow becomes even better. Gray’s ability to transform and enhance his music through live performance is a very rare skill. The emotion he puts into each lyric is astounding, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
Overall, the show was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for fans. Every song was insanely well done and impactful. Gray’s talent has surely established him as one of the best male artists of our generation.
