The Baldwin girls volleyball team fell to Canon-McMillan, 3-0, on Tuesday night.
Junior Cameron Bowlus said Canon Mac’s offense played their best and won the game for the team.
“The other team also had a really great offense with some big hitters who could swing hard anywhere and get a kill,” Bowlus said.
Despite this, Bowlus said Baldwin’s offense put up a good fight.
“We did a good job on offense, especially on the pins – just mixing up our shots and finding places where maybe their defense was lacking,” Bowlus said.
Senior Abby Hirt credited senior Abbie Morhing for her plays on offense.
“Abbie Mohring’s swings were really good and she was smart with the ball,” Hirt said.
Bowlus agreed.
“Abbie Mohring had a lot of really good hits,” Bowlus said.
Hirt said the defense put on a good performance against Canon Mac.
“Our defense was holding up really well against Canon Mac’s strong hitters,” Hirt said.
“The other team had good serve receive, and their outsides were helping their team a lot.”
It was in the third set that Canon Mac got the best of the Highlanders, Bowlus said.
“The first two sets were really close and we were keeping up very well. But in the third set we didn’t fight back as hard and they got ahead pretty fast,” Bowlus said.
Hirt believes that despite the loss, the Highlanders still played a strong and competitive game. She looks forward with confidence that the team can fight back in their future games this season.
“This game was really good for us because it’s the closest we’ve ever been with Canon Mac, and it makes me excited to play them again as well as other teams this year,” Hirt said.
The girls play away tonight against the Bethel Park Blackhawks at 7 p.m.
