The Baldwin football team lost 61-12 to Chartiers Valley on Friday.
Senior Jack Steverson feels that Chartiers played a solid game overall, particularly on defense.
“They had really good picks, and they kept around the ball very well,” Steverson said.
Senior Caleb Scheller agreed.
“Chartiers Valley excelled at pushing the ball down the field and stopping our run game,” Scheller said.
This loss makes the team’s season record 0-4. But sophomore Dylan Kluczkowski explained that the team’s mentality was unwavering.
“We didn’t play our best on Friday, but we never gave up,” Kluczkowski said.
Reflecting on what went well during the game, Steverson said Baldwin’s defensive players did well.
“We had overall a pretty solid defense,” Steverson said.
Scheller agreed.
“We were able to make stops and get to the quarterback,” Scheller said.
Kluczkowski said the Highlander offensive line also played well.
“Their defensive line was hard to stop, but our guys did their best to protect our quarterback,” Kluczkowski said.
Scheller cited junior running back Dre’on Fuller as a standout player of the game.
“He was able to get yards for us and give us momentum,” Scheller said.
Looking at the rest of the season, Steverson feels that there is room for the team to improve.
“We can still improve on our blocking, and we definitely need to be passing the ball more,” Steverson said.
Scheller felt the same way as Steverson.
“We definitely need to push the ball more downfield and get more touchdowns,” Scheller said.
Kluczkowski feels that the Highlanders might have been overly confident going into the game.
“Going into this game we were confident that we were going to win, but a couple plays into the game we knew we underestimated them,” Kluczkowski said.
The team’s next game is on the road Friday at Elizabeth Forward High School.
