The boys soccer team gave up a second-half goal and fell to Elizabeth Forward 2-1 on Monday.
Senior Alex Weber said Elizabeth Forward did a good job taking the opportunities they were given.
“Elizabeth Forward capitalized on their opportunities well,” Weber said. “We’ve been playing highly competitive games, but the final result hasn’t been what we’re looking for.”
Senior Lieu said that Baldwin did well on communication.
“We did well moving the ball, communicating, pressing our opponent, and creating opportunities to score on the field,” he said.
Seniors Ethan Bell and Gavin Ries said that the team’s overall technique has improved.
“The movement of our ball and our style of play has gotten a lot better,” Ries said.
Lieu said that the team hopes to improve by keeping up a full effort for the entirety of the game.
“I think playing with 100 percent effort regardless of the turnout is a great mindset to learn,” he said.
Ries and Bell agreed, saying that the team has to work on maintaining a high level of “effort and intensity” throughout the entire game.
Bell said that Lieu was a standout player in the game, getting the team “a lot of attacking opportunities.”
Lieu scored in the first half for the Highlanders, tying the game. He said it brought a new level of motivation going into the next half.
Weber said senior Jackson Presto dominated the midfield, and senior Gavin Ries played very well defensively. Lieu said that goalkeeper junior Eli Schuchert stood out for Baldwin.
“He stepped up and kept us in the game with clutch saves,” he said.
Bell said that despite the loss, the team played well.
“It was a very close game, so it was unfortunate that we lost,” he said.
The team’s next game is away at Ambridge, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
