The girls volleyball team defeated Mt. Lebanon on Thursday, 3-1, with the sets ending up a 25-17 win, a 25-23 loss, and then wins of 25-20 and 25-23.
The Highlanders played a solid game all around with success in their hitting, blocking, and serving.
“Our serving and serve receive were very consistent, and the defense did a good job making really good plays,” junior Addy Troutman said.
Senior Reese Temme’s efforts stood out in the game, her teammates said.
“Reese Temme had an outstanding game,” junior Caitlyn Zalar said. “Her hitting helped us get the win, but her consistent energy on and off the court stood out.”
Troutman agreed and said Temme made smart plays and was successful in limiting errors.
Zalar said Troutman also played an excellent game due to making important plays at the net, and junior Cameron Bowlus made good blocking plays as well as scoring the game-winning point.
Junior Hannah Dayoub said seniors Ashley Skowronski and Mia Wyse, and junior Cameron Bowlus also stood out for the Highlanders.
“Ashley and Mia stood out with their constant pursuit of the ball and playing smart,” Dayoub said. “Cam had many good hits throughout the game.”
Mt. Lebanon, meanwhile, also played a good game with solid hitters and defense.
“Mt. Lebanon had some really good hitters who could move the ball all over the place,” Zalar said. “They also had good back row defense.”
Dayoub agreed.
“They were pretty organized and had a few good hitters,” Dayoub said.
Going into their next game, Baldwin could improve its energy, the teammates said.
“I think the team could get better at keeping our energy up throughout the game, but overall I think we did very well,” Zalar said.
The team’s current overall record is 4-1, with their section record being 1-1.
The team’s next match is at Canon Mac at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
