The Baldwin girls soccer team lost to Connellsville 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Senior Addison Hirt said Connellsville was aggressive and consistently put good shots on goal.
“They got a lot of shots on goal and they were good shots, so it put a lot of pressure on us to defend better,” Hirt said.
The Highlanders need to do a better job of taking advantage of opportunities, she said.
“We need to score,” Hirt said. “We had a lot of good possessions on offense, we just have to capitalize on them.”
Connellsville scored late in the game, which hurt the Highlanders’ momentum, and they were unable to tie the game.
“Their goal stood out to me,” Hirt said. “We were battling all game and their goal shut down all of our momentum.”
Despite the loss, the Highlanders still played a good defensive game, anchored by sophomore Tenley Fry, Hirt said.
“Tenley did a really good job getting the ball out of our zone on defense and sending it up the field,” she said.
The Highlanders possessed the ball most of the game and did a good job at that.
“As a team, we passed the ball really well and held possession on their side of the field for most of the game,” Hirt said.
The Highlanders’ next game will be on Monday on the road against Canon Mac at 7:45 p.m.
