The girls volleyball team lost to Upper Saint Clair 3-0 on Tuesday.
The Highlanders struggled to “stay consistent” and “not get stuck in certain rotations,” senior Reese Temme said. Upper St. Clair had a strong offense, making it hard for Baldwin to get good touches on the ball, she said.
“They kept serving and we just couldn’t get one pass. They were hitting on all sides of the court,” Temme said.
Despite the loss, the team has improved from last year, which was evident throughout the game, Temme said.
“We started out very competitive and very energetic,” Temme said. “We brought good energy, which was a big change from last year.”
Many members of the team stood out during the game, she said. Sophomore Chelsea Weber had a lot of good kills, junior Addy Troutman had many good touches on the ball, and senior Rhianna Lavelle had a great serving form, Temme said.
Senior Allison Lease agreed that Lavelle stood out.
“She went on a long serving run in the second set to put us in the lead,” she said.
Lease said that Baldwin saw a push in the second set.
“We started off really strong, even though things didn’t go our way we really pushed at the beginning” of that second set, Lease said.
She said the team played especially well on defense.
“Our defense was on fire with lots of digs and hustle plays,” Lease said.
The rest of the season has gone well, with the team’s current record being 3-1.
“We’ve had three solid wins, so it’s definitely looking up from last season,” Temme said. “We’ve made a lot of positive changes.”
For the rest of the season, Temme said the team plans to continue building the skills they have been improving on and strengthening their mechanics.
Their next game will be on Thursday against Mt. Lebanon at home.
