The Baldwin girls soccer team lost to Upper St. Clair, 6-1, on Wednesday night.
Although the Highlanders gave up six goals, team members said there were bright spots. Senior Olivia Page said junior Morgan Leaf played well defensively.
“She played very well defensively and was good at getting behind the ball and stopping any attacks or runs they had,” Page said.
The team had some good offensive plays as well. Senior Addison Hirt complimented Page and junior Gianna Harkins for working together to score for Baldwin.
“Gianna did really good work crashing the net after Olivia shot the ball and set her up for the goal,” Hirt said.
Harkins’ goal was the second varsity goal she’s scored. As exciting as it was for Harkins, she gave a lot of the credit to Page.
“She had a great shot from just past the half mark and got it all the way to the goal,” Harkins said.
Overall the team stayed positive and worked hard through the entire game.
Harkins said there were a few things the team could improve on going forward, including “keeping our heads up, listening to people on the field, and communication,” Harkins said. “But I feel like it’s definitely good to look at the positives of last night too.”
The team will play Mt. Lebanon this Saturday at home.
