The Baldwin boys varsity soccer team lost 5-2 to South Park on Tuesday.
Baldwin went into halftime down 2-1, but South Park was able to score three more goals in the second half to seal the win.
“We had very high intensity, and the team played very well in the first half,” senior Gavin Ries said. “But we collapsed in the second half.”
South Park had success in controlling the ball throughout the match.
“They did very well in winning balls in the air,” Ries said.
Ries said seniors Alex Weber and Zach Lieu were standout players for the Highlanders.
“They both played great and helped the team throughout the game,” Ries said. Lieu scored one of the team’s goals, while junior Aiden Ries got the other one.
Ries praised the Highlanders’ offense for their work throughout the game.
“The team did very well in attacking the opponent’s half and winning balls,” Ries said.
He said the team can work on finishing out games in the future.
“One thing we can improve on for the next game is playing at 100 percent intensity for all 80 minutes,” Ries said.
The loss moved the Highlanders to an 0-4 record overall. Since this match was an out-of-section match, the team’s in-section record remains 0-2.
The team’s next game is at Chartiers Valley today, with the junior varsity game starting at 6 p.m. and the varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
