Equus Caballus, by Men I Trust, is the second part of a project that started with the album Equus Asinus. The album is calm and emotional, remaining true to the band’s signature dreamy sound but delving deeper into reflective and contemplative emotions.
It was released in early May, two months after Equus Asinus. The album aligns with the overall mood of other albums the indie pop band has released, such as Oncle Jazz.
The instrumentals are soft, and the vocals by lead vocalist, Emannuelle Proulx, complement the mood of the songs. The overall tone of the album is floaty and dreamy. Rather than having a big change in sound, most songs in the album stay at the same pace.
A song on the album that stands out is “Billy Toppy (2025).” It is a shift from the other slow-paced songs on the album. It has a steady rhythm and features bass lines mixed with synths, meshing punk with electronic.
Although most of the album is solid, the beginning feels quite weak. It sounds like the usual songs produced by Men I Trust, which can be somewhat boring at times, but it develops as the album continues.
The bass throughout the album is very engaging, complemented by all the other instruments used. These factors make the album a great listen.
