The newest addition to the Netflix movie series Fear Street is a disappointment.
Fear Street: Prom Queen is overly predictable: The whole plot, up until the last 10 minutes, can be easily foreseen.
Set in the 1980s, the movie involves another murderous story in the town of Shadyside. Lori Granger decides to run for prom queen to help her mother forget about her tragic experience at prom. Slowly, throughout prom night, the prom queen contestants are killed off one by one.
Despite the twist at the very end, this plotline is played out and is a disappointment compared to the other movies in the series.
The first three movies provided a real plot to follow and fit into a timeline of events. Fear Street: Prom Queen does not seem to fit into this timeline at all and never references the other movies.
Some scenes are cringeworthy. After Lori Granger steals her opponent’s boyfriend, their dance scene is very hard to watch.
The movie is also excessively gory. Fans of the earlier Fear Street movies may not be bothered, but this is possibly the goriest movie so far.
Overall, this edition of Fear Street is corny and a letdown.
