Music was better “back in the day.”
Tracks from decades ago are still considered “essentials,” showing their remaining impact on the music industry. Today, music doesn’t feel as personal compared to how it was years ago.
There were more instrumental elements, showing more musical craftsmanship. Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” is a prime example of musical talent, as he sings and plays the piano and harmonica to create the backdrop.
Songs were consistently put together in an artistic way. In modern times, meanwhile, a large portion of songs have similar-sounding beats.
Typically, older songs did not include explicit language, so families could listen to music together without worrying about what vulgar lyrics might play.
Additionally, for many fans, older songs bring nostalgia, as they grew up listening to that music.
This isn’t to say that modern songs lack artistic elements. But there is a clear difference between a blend of instruments and electronically crafted sound.
Interestingly, our generation continues to bring back classics through social media platforms like TikTok.
“Eyes Without a Face” by Billy Idol and “Let’s Groove” by Earth Wind and Fire resurfaced on the platform and were connected with trends, bringing them back onto the charts.
Perhaps they stand out compared to modern-day tracks because older music remains superior to current hits.
