The Baldwin baseball team’s season came to an end on Thursday with a 5-4 loss to Peters Township in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.
Senior Dylan Hartman felt that Peters outplayed Baldwin on the field.
“They definitely out-pitched us, which helped them a lot,” Hartman said. “We struggled with both fielding and pitching, but overall it was a good game.”
The playoff game started on Wednesday but was postponed during the second inning due to rain. The game was completed on Thursday.
Junior Gavin Sakely said despite the rain postponement, the Highlanders still played well.
“We definitely had energy,” Sakely said. “That was the craziest game I’ve ever been a part of.”
Despite the loss, Hartman said the team has improved a lot this season, especially since the Highlanders made the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
“We turned everything around from last year. It was great to break the drought and finally make playoffs,” Hartman said.
Being a senior, Hartman reflected on the future of the team.
“Even though we didn’t win the game, it was a great season overall. It definitely set the stage for the underclassman, and I can’t wait to come back next season and watch them play,” Hartman said.
Sakely said the team’s turnaround this year was impressive.
“It was incredible. We had like three wins in the past two years, and now we went to the playoffs this year,” Sakely said.
