Baldwin’s Unified track team defeated Central Valley and Canon-McMillan in a meet on Tuesday.
Previously, Baldwin had placed second in a meet against the two schools. But the Highlanders came out on top in the rematch Tuesday at Central Valley.
Coach Victoria Sgattoni said the Highlanders did a really good job, with many athletes posting PRs.
“Din Goawala did really well in his race – he passed two kids and ended up finishing first,” Sgattoni said. “Anzino Burg did well at shot-put. Nathan Davis did a really good job on the 400 – he sprinted the whole thing. I feel like Emiliana Austin has improved a lot in long jump since the start.”
Sgattoni cited the two weeks of practice in between the two meets as the primary difference maker.
“We worked a lot harder in practice,” she said. “We were like. ‘OK, we’re going against the same two teams again, so this will be our chance to show that we really improved’ – which we did.”
The team’s next meet will feature five or six schools. It will be at home on May 19.
