The season finale of the third season of Yellowjackets answered many questions, but left some viewers feeling conflicted.
The show follows a high school girls soccer team whose plane crashes on the way to nationals. While trying to survive the wilderness, the girls, along with their coach and two boys, eventually descend into madness and even cannibalism.
At the end of season two, the team was left out in the winter as their only shelter burned down. Who — if anyone — lit their cabin on fire remains a mystery, and this causes lasting conflict throughout season three.
The third season opens with a time jump to spring, where the girls have built new shelters, found animals, and generally seem to be doing well. However, as the season progresses, viewers see that things are not as positive as they seem.
The show also follows the survivors of the crash into their adult lives. This feature of the show has not been well received this season, mostly due to one actress’s choice to leave the show after season two. This caused some issues with the original adult storyline that the writers had to work around.
While some viewers think that the show has gone downhill because of this problem, the writers actually did a good job of figuring out how to navigate the show in her absence. The plot continues to remain interesting and mysterious.
Overall, Yellowjackets season three did have some challenges to overcome, but it stays true to its gruesome and puzzling nature. The season’s shocking finale will leave viewers itching to know what comes next.
