In a game that was delayed by rain on Tuesday and finished on Wednesday, the boys baseball team lost to Montour 8-3.
Senior Matthew Nowicki said Montour played better in this game than in the first game of the two-game series.
“Montour was working the count a lot better than the previous game on Monday,” Nowicki said. “They were hitting the ball around a little bit, forced us into tough situations, and putting a lot of pressure on our pitchers.”
Junior Ethan Helbling also credited Montour’s hitting.
“They hit a home run and a couple extra-base hits,” Helbling said.
Helbling said that the Highlanders can improve on defense.
“We can improve on our fielding because we had a couple errors,” Helbling said.
Despite the loss, Helbling said that Baldwin’s hitting was a positive.
“We hit the ball pretty well, but they were just in spots where they could make the out,” he said.
Nowicki said that sophomore Cooper Sturges was a standout during the game.
“He did a great job pitching, allowing one run in three innings. He also swung the bat well, as he hit a double as well,” Nowicki said.
Helbing also said that Nowicki played well for the Highlanders.
“Nowicki stood out for us because he had a multi-hit game,” Helbling said.
The boys will next play at home against Canon-McMillan on Monday at 4 p.m. It will also be the boys’ senior recognition night.
