Baldwin girls lacrosse fell to Peters Township on Wednesday, 20-1.
The girls struggled against Peters’ fast breaks.
“They had good transitions down to the defense and they had really good fast breaks,” junior Lexi Iwaniuk said. “They always had one extra person on attack … so our midfielders couldn’t get back with enough time to get situated on defense.”
The Highlanders’ only goal was scored by senior Brooklyn Joyce.
Joyce “was constantly making opportunities for herself, which then allowed her to score our only goal,” senior Aliza Very said.
Iwaniuk said Joyce moved quickly against Peters’ defense.
She “moved the ball a lot,” Iwaniuk said. “She was fast so the defense couldn’t get on her and she made movement on and off the ball to score.”
Junior Olivia O’Malley also stood out, according to senior Milana Winowich.
“Oliva stood out because she kept up her energy and was doing a great job at communicating,” Winowich said.
The girls are going to keep working on their game.
“We’re going to continue working on talking on defense and fast breaks – moving the ball on offense too,” Iwaniuk said.
Very is proud of the team’s performance this season.
“This season has definitely been our best season out of my four years at Baldwin,” Very said.
The team’s next game is Monday at Penn Trafford.
“I feel like we can compete with them,” Iwaniuk said. “It should be a better game.”
