The softball team split two games over spring break, losing to Thomas Jefferson 14-5 and beating Connellsville 20-5.
In last Wednesday’s loss to TJ, senior Ryley Shaw said that TJ did exceptionally well compared to the last time Baldwin played them.
“TJ hit the ball really well throughout the entire game,” Shaw said.
Freshman Cam Temme agreed.
“They hit a lot better than us, and we just didn’t do that well on defense,” Temme said.
Shaw said Baldwin could’ve played better hitting and making plays in the field.
“Baldwin can work on making routine plays in the field and hitting with runners on base,” Shaw said.
Last Tuesday, meanwhile, the Highlanders defeated Connellsville. The team played well both defensively and offensively.
Pitcher Melina DeFelice “pitched really well, and we hit really well in that game,” Temme said.
In addition, the team had three home run hitters: juniors Avery Herrington, Mackenzie Bowen, and Reese Temme.
Overall, the team had confidence coming into the season, which has helped them to be successful so far.
“We were all expecting to be good this season, and I think that has helped us because we know what we can do,” Temme said.
The team’s record is now 6-2 in section. Their next game is today at home against Connellsville at 5 p.m. Next Monday versus Albert Gallatin will be the senior recognition game.
