Baldwin boys volleyball won both of its matches over spring break.
They won their match against North Hills on Monday night, 3-0. One player who stood out was Brayden Gremba, junior Dylan Leonhardt said.
“If we ever needed a point, we just set him up and let him go for it,” Leonhardt said. “He also served very well.”
Senior Anjal Gurung agreed, crediting Gremba for his skills.
“It was his first time back in after his injury,” Gurung said. “He was just doing really good.”
Gurung said he also did well, helping to lead the team to the win.
“I think I’m a solid leader who helps the team,” Gurung said.
The team’s match against Peters Township last Wednesday also went well, with Baldwin winning 3-1.
Gurung said a standout player in that match was junior Austin Kruszewski.
“Austin was doing everything well. He was blocking and spiking and just really stood out that game,” Gurung said
Leonhardt agreed.
“Austin had some really great blocks and points against Peters,” Leonhardt said. “Any time we got a decent pass going, we knew exactly who it was going to.”
The entire team had a strong match, Gurung said.
“Everybody just played well. We were locked in after winning the first set,” Gurung said. “We hit better, we served better, and we just had fewer errors compared to the other team.”
Some of the memorable moments from each game were getting aces, Gurung said.
“Just us getting aces and blocks was really fun,” Gurung said.
The boys have now won three games consecutively, but Leonhardt feels that the team can still fine-tune a few things.
“Studying film and strategizing definitely plays a big role against every team we go against. Our serve-receive can be improved upon, though. We get aced more than we ace other teams,” Leonhardt said.
Gurung agrees that some things need to be worked on.
“We can improve our defense and get low,” Gurung said. “Overall, though, we’ve been playing well.”
Gurung said the wins boosted team morale and confidence.
“We’re happy that we won and we’re ready to do it again,” Gurung said. “It feels good to be the team that we’re meant to be and win.”
Leonhardt also expressed what the wins mean to the team.
“We were all sick and tiring of losing, so winning these past three definitely lifts our spirits,” Leonhardt said.
The boys’ next match is at home tonight against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.
