Baldwin’s track and field team competed in an invitational meet on Saturday.
Junior Tanner Zalar was one of multiple Baldwin athletes who achieved a personal record.
“I ran the mile with a time of 5:08. It was a PR for me, and I’m really happy about it,” Zalar said.
Zalar is still working toward his goal for the mile.
“My goal was to break five minutes on the mile. I did not do that, but I did PR, so I am still proud of my performance,” Zalar said.
Senior Nathaniel McWilliams also achieved a personal record in discus.
“My distance was 110 feet, 10 inches,” McWilliams said.
Gateway’s team in particular provided strong competition for the boys. They were very prepared, and that showed in their running, Zalar said.
For the girls, senior Jazzy Green brought in two medals for Baldwin.
“I placed third in shot put and second in discus,” Green said.
This invitational meet had some challenging aspects.
“I felt a little anxious because there were 1,600 athletes and it was cold, so I didn’t know how I would perform,” Green said.
Green is close to achieving her distance goal.
“My goal was to be first in discus, and I was second, so I didn’t quite reach my goal, but I am still working hard,” Green said.
The next track and field meet is today at West Mifflin.
