The Baldwin girls lacrosse team decisively defeated Allderdice on Thursday night, 18-4.
Junior Lexie Iwaniuk said the Highlanders played as a team rather than as individuals, as shown by six different players scoring goals.
Junior Olivia O’Malley led the team with five goals, senior Aliza Very had four, senior Milana Winowich and senior Brooklyn Joyce each scored three, senior Alexa Sherman had two, and freshman Maddie Murphy scored her first varsity goal.
Sherman said O’Malley stood out on Baldwin because her energy helped pump up the team and help them keep their lead.
“She stayed aggressive throughout the entire game and worked to bring the whole team up. She did well to set up plays on offense and to create opportunities to score, and she also held our defense together with her strong communication,” Sherman said.
Compared to previous seasons, the team has advanced this year.
“Our transitions from defense to attack have improved a lot, and we played better as a team. Our scores have improved a lot from last season,” Iwaniuk said.
Sherman agreed.
“We connected our passes very well and were able to transition it and settle it down on offense without any errors,” Sherman said.
The team’s record is now 4-5 and they will move on to play Plum away on Wednesday night.
