Baldwin’s Super Smash Bros. esports team fell to Canon-Mac 3-1 in the second round of playoffs on Wednesday.
Coach Nathan Elias said junior Zach Czapko had the strongest performance of the day.
“He won his first set but unfortunately lost in the rematch,” Elias said. “He still put up a great fight against a very tough opponent.”
This loss may have ended their season, but Czapko got some advice that gave him a slight change of perspective.
“I talked to the Seton Hill coach after the game,” Czapko said. “He reminded me that the team is almost completely juniors and underclassmen, and we got ninth place. We will probably have the same team next year, so, with offseason improvements, we should be better since we have the team chemistry already.”
Elias said that the team has some areas to improve on during the offseason.
“There are things everyone on the team can improve on, but unfortunately, that is our last match of the season,” Elias said. “Hopefully, we will be able to come back next year stronger.”
Elias said he was very happy with the team’s performance over the season.
“We had a great year, finishing in the top 16 of the state in the first season we have run for Super Smash Bros.,” Elias said. “Canon-Mac is a very good team, so putting up a fight against them is something we can be proud of.”
