The Marvel Rivals esports team defeated NeoCity out of Florida 3-0 in the first round of playoffs on Tuesday.
Sophomore Luke Linden is confident in the team’s ability to move on in the playoffs after completing the 3-0 sweep on Tuesday.
“It was a steam roll. We absolutely destroyed them,” Linden said.
Linden’s confidence has grown as the team has adapted a new strategy of playing aggressively and playing for eliminations, rather than using the team’s earlier, more passive and defensive strategy.
“I think we have a good chance of placing high this season,” Linden said.
The team’s record is 7-2. The Marvel Rivals team finished the regular season ranked 20th out of 275 total teams from the East Coast.
Head Coach Nathan Elias thought the team played well as a whole throughout the matchup, and he is also confident in the team’s chances to continue moving forward.
“It’s hard to pick out one person who really stood out. Everyone on the team had a great match,” Elias said, “We still want to win, though, and we will be working hard to continue our playoff run on Thursday.”
The team will go on to play I.C. Norcom out of Virginia in the round of 32 on Thursday.
