The Baldwin boys baseball team decisively defeated McKeesport on Tuesday evening, 16-1.
The Highlanders started off, hot with a seven-run first inning, and they stayed hot afterward, senior Brady Caplan said.
Juniors Trey Alario and Nico Macurak, senior Nick Burg, and sophomore Aiden Robinson each had at least two RBIs.
Another key to the win, Caplan said, was that the team played with a lot of discipline.
“Our patience at the plate and the ability to throw strikes were the reasons why we were so successful,” Caplan said.
Senior Matt Nowicki also credited the team’s defense.
“We fielded very well and made no errors,” Nowicki said.
Nowicki also cited the efforts of junior Trey Alario.
“Trey pitched three very good innings for us,” Nowicki said. “He also had a double and a single in the game.”
Moving forward, the Highlanders can work on baserunning, Nowicki said.
“We need to be more fundamentally sound on the base paths and work on being more efficient when stealing,” Nowicki said.
The Highlanders play McKeesport again on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
